Many Catholics are unaware of the Church’s effort to address the tragedy of child sexual molestation by clergy or Church related personnel. A recent study (CARA) reported only 34% of surveyed Catholics heard of the Charter for the Protection Children and Young People, and only 17% of those surveyed were aware of steps taken by the local Diocese to prevent child abuse. In response to the report, Diocese of Wilmington leadership believes it important to attempt to better inform all the faithful about what we do (a) when a reported abuse is given us, (b) describe the outreach the Diocese makes to victims and/or their families, and (c) what we are doing to prevent abuse.
