5. Old Business
A. Update - 50th Anniversary Events Ruth provided info on upcoming events: *Winter Arts fesIval is the Youth 50th Anniversary Event. *Social concerns fair will be 2/15-16. *Lenten renewal 2/29-3/5 with Fr. Simeon. Ruth provided draQ of flyer coming out; this is already on parish web site. Hospitality team was contacted by Ruth (4 people, reviewing what they did last Ime). Linda will coordinate with parish life as needed. This is the last event for the 50th Anniversary other than the Triduum and the Easter recepIon. This needs to be publicized: Dialog, News Journal, bulleIns in area, social media, NextDoor. Last Ime we had an ad in the Dialog. Ruth thinks the cost may have been $125 for digital ediIon banner, maybe was $325 for the paper print ad. This needs to be decided. Debbie sent basic info to News Journal datebook. Jack wondered about sending publicity to Goldey-Beacom; Mary Beth will try to find out about how to do this. There was some discussion about general publicity. There hasn’t been so much of a response over the years from GB. Jack will try to see about publicity at UD, contact should be made through the Oratory. *Anniversary Year ends on Easter Sunday. *Ruth observed that collaboraIon among ministry groups has been fruigul and fun. Of note is the importance of ushers and greeters. *Also there is a project to collect parish history including this year. ClarificaIons as to form of the project are sIll to be made. Videos, photos, anything we think is important should be sent to Debbie. *Also there has been talk about creaIng an archive for the parish.
B. Contact info for alternates: Confirm, distribute list Contact info was sent with minutes and agenda. Julie pointed out a needed correcIon.
C. Signups for Reflec/ons OK through June. Mike is on schedule for February.
D. Snacks— People like snacks, may “assign.”
6. New Business
A. Updates on Pastoral Council Goals:
1. Reports from Standing Commilees a. Parish Life *Commilee report was sent separately. *Ruth pointed out the December 15 celebraIon that we had was not a Christmas party; Christmas starts Dec. 24. * For publicity on NextDoor- individuals can post invitaIons, but staff can not, from a parish email. *There will be no Feb. 22 Mardi Gras party due to potenIal conflict with souper supper. *Ruth pointed out there are already events scheduled every week, so it would not be a good idea to have a social event like a dance during Lent. *St. John the Beloved used the gathering space for the Parents with Young Children group. About 16 people were here, and not all were parents. This was adverIsed in our bulleIn inviIng parishioners to parIcipate. May want to explore the possibility of a group like this here. *CongratulaIons to the ResurrecIon Youth basketball team, which won a holiday basketball tournament sponsored by St. Peters. b. Social Concerns *Sharon reported, next meeIng is 1/29. *Social concerns fair is 2/15-16. The purpose is to try to make parishioners aware of the social concerns acIviIes we support. More info will be provided next month.
c. ChrisIan FormaIon *1st reconciliaIon was yesterday, 4 candidates. *Epiphany Party was successful. *Elaine held confirmaIon class, 10 out of 11 attended. *A family partcipaIng in the basketball team has 2 children whowill be bapIzed at the Easter vigil. d. Liturgy Ruth reported on activities. *Lots of graItude for all that’s been going on, in parIcular with Christmas Masses. There was a lot of usher help. For the 4 pm Mass, we had 17 EM’s. For all the Christmas Masses, all the needs were covered, though they would have wanted a little more help ideally. Personal invitaIons are the best way to recruit. *Linda commented she did not recognize a lot of people who came on New Year’s Day for Mass. We do get visitors even through Epiphany. We try to welcome young adults to parIcipate in the ministries they were previously in, when they come back to visit. Now some of the returning young adults are contacIng Ruth in advance to see about participating.
*Epiphany bilingual Mass was wonderful, full of joy.
*1st ReconciliatIon service yesterday was beautiful.
Environment change was made today, back to ordinary Ime. About 15 people helped.
*Liturgy commilee has tried to include different voices in the assembly. For example, Immaculate ConceptIon Mass had a reflecIon by parishioner, Joan McConnell. Ken Tulenko provided a reflecIon at Epiphany . *Upcoming: blessings of communion (Feb 9, 10:30 Mass ) and confirmatIon (Feb. 8, 5:30) candidates.
*PreparaIons for Lent and Triduum are in progress.
*Re. Christmas Masses, Mary Beth got one questIon about why the 11 pm Mass was not held, but they understood reasoning of scheduling.
*There were favorable comments about some of the youth parIcipatIng in music ministry.
*Donna Ramage has joined the liturgy commilee. (There are 7 or 8 people on the commilee now.)
2. MarkeIng ResurrecIon outside of the Parish
*Most markeIng is as a result of Debbie’s efforts. There is increased communicaIon outside the parish. For NextDoor, noIces have to be placed by individuals. Jack said the News Journal will publish arIcles but they have to be truly newsworthy, not just publicizing events. He was invited to write an op/ed on his prison ministry.
3. Small/Faith Group Sharing *Review of exisIng groups/Progress setting up Gospel discussion groups
*John reported Mary Beth is working on promotIng the groups for Lent. There will be entries in BulletIn. No new groups (yet). Fr. Bill may do a group on the Two Popes movie. Mary Beth observed Fr. Bill is very busy but he feels he can do it. Might be every 2 weeks for 4 sessions. MaryBeth will do a group on the gospel.
*A lot of interest in the Malhew Kelly books. We have no more of the latest books. People may be able to share exisIng books.
*The movie Just Mercy just came out, it’s about working with people on death row, working to get rid of the death penalty. There is a study guide. John thought it might be useful for social concerns. It just came out in theaters last week.
4. AddiIonal volunteers for visits to sick, homebound *We have about 7 new people, Fr. Bill said. There are a variety of situatIons. Working out pretty well. Will conInue to try to develop more new people. Will probably try to get people together to share experiences, insights.
B. SWOT Analysis – next steps ExecuIve council thought the value is in going through the process. The analysis may be useful for sesng PC goals for next year. (SWOT = StrengthsWeaknesses OpportuniIes Threats)
7. Other reports (if any) • Finance Mike Reis reported as of the end of December, for the first Ime in 18 months the offertory exceeded budget. The Christmas offertory exceeded what we projected. We tried using envelopes to encourage givers, but he didn’t think they helped. The envelopes looked different so he could count them, and there were only 9 of those special envelopes (6 of those were from regular electronic givers). Linda commented perhaps we should periodically say explicitly that you may not see people giving to the baskets, but they are giving electronically.n John commented that, typically, the last Sunday of Advent is the least attended, but this year it had higher attendance than usual, for some reason. The 10:30 and 8:15 Masses that day were beler alended than typical 10:30 and 8:15 Masses. The same thing was observed the following weekend, Holy Family. Teenagers or young adults are home for Christmas and perhaps they all came with their families. New Year’s Day was also prely well attended. The Epiphany 10:30 Mass had almost 200 people.
Stewardship campaign: Mike had asked Tina last year to collect amount of increase and there was an increase of $3,300 annually. This year there was an increase of $14,578. We don’t know the reason for the increase, but we are grateful. It’s possible that it’s related to the new tax laws.'
When the budget was prepared, some expenses were included that the diocese did not end up charging us, so that was about $20,000 in savings. The Annual Appeal did not reach its goal for ResurrecIon. We are $5,428 short on pledges. The assessment was $68,500 and $63,072 was pledged. (This status was updated after the meeIng.) Fr. Bill said we need new finance council members and will recruit some.
• Property/Grounds No report from commilee. The comment was made that the new paint in the gathering space and worship space was great.
8. Floor open to Council and members of the parish. Jack will be looking for people to parIcipate in the Finding Jesus in Islam book discussion group. He has 7 or 8 Muslim leaders who have agreed to parIcipate. This will be advertIsed in an upcoming bulleIn. Jack wants to see ResurrecIon as an interfaith hub. He thinks that will add appeal to being a member of ResurrecIon. There will be a January 31 meeIng at Jesus House. This is an informaIon session, to organize logisIcs. There will be other organizaIonal meeIngs at other locaIons and Imes. It was menIoned that the NAMI (NaIonal Alliance on Mental Illness) group sIll meets monthly at ResurrecIon. In addiIon, the Dual Recovery Anonymous group conInues to meet on Monday nights. Both those things give exposure to ResurrecIon. That Monday night DRA group started a second group at another locaIon.
9. Announcements Nothing to discuss.
10. Pastor’s Comments and Advice In January there are church unity events. Fr. Hynes is having an event at St. Catherine of Siena on January 23. At least 3 or 4 ChrisIan Churches are involved. This is part of an emphasis on the Red Clay school district. This arose out of iniIaIves against gun violence. This is adverIsed in this weekend’s bulletin.
Annual Catholic appeal, some parishioners may have received invitations to the circle of honor, and this year it’s being held at St. Mark’s. It’s an opportunity to create a good impression for the Bishop. There may be a Mass at St. Mark’s and then a buffet in the cafeteria. There will also be something at Seton for those who need a handicap accessible place, and the date for that may be early February. Trustees were elected today, at 11:30. This fulfilled state and church obligaIons. Carolyn Reynolds and Mark Zolandz are the new trustees.
11. Closing Prayer
12. Adjournment - The meeIng was adjourned at 8:05 p.m
