The Liturgical Ministries of Resurrection Parish
As the song says “ We are called, we are chosen, we are Christ for one another.” So must we all listen to the Spirit calling us to serve and imitate Christ. Listed below are opportunities available to you to serve in Liturgical Ministry within our parish. Information and training are with a mentor are offered for each ministry. Please take some time to look over this information to discern if Liturgical Ministry is where you are being “ called” to serve.
ALTAR SERVER: Young people (fifth grade and up), teens adults and assist priest and deacon at liturgies. This can be a great parent/child ministry! Many of our best servers are teens. Adults are very welcome. We’d love to have parent-child teams! Frequency depends on number of servers available.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW): Adults and youth help to proclaim and break open the word and respond in prayer with our children through Children’s Liturgy of the Word in a separate space. We hope to offer Children's Liturgy of the Word two times a month during the school year and once a month during the summer. Prayer leaders serve from one to five times a year. Some formation is required.
ENVIRONMENT: Implement Worship Space environment for each liturgical season and each Sunday. Helpers can take a specific small task, a group of tasks, or stay until everything is done, usually in two hours or less. Great family opportunity.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTER OF HOLY COMMUNION: Distribute communion at Mass. Initial formation and ongoing study is required, as well as meeting Diocesan requirements.
GREETER: In welcoming strangers, we welcome Christ. Greeters become the face of Christ as they offer a warm welcome to newcomers and parishioners. Serving once or twice a month, greeters arrive 15-20 minutes early and stay several minutes after Mass.
LECTOR: Prepare and proclaim God’s Word at Mass and other liturgies. For initial formation lectors are guided through the process of preparing to proclaim with a mentor who will offer one-on-one guidance. Lectors are provided resources that explain the readings and provide guidance on what to emphasize, how to proclaim, and how to pronounce tricky words and place names. Ongoing study of scripture and proclaimation skills is highly encouraged.
LINEN SACRISTAN: Cleans the altar linens. Frequency is once every four to six weeks.
MASS SACRISTAN: Works in the Sacristy 15 minutes before/after the Mass preparing the vessels, bread, wine to be shared at our “Eucharistic Meal.” Men, women, and families are all welcome! Frequency is once every three to six weeks.
MUSICIAN: Vocalists and instrumentalists serve to support the assembly in singing the liturgy on Sunday and Holy Days. Reasonable proficiency required. Includes Youth Music Group and Children's Choir. Rehearsal required.
USHER: with seating, Ushers help provide a welcoming atmosphere by assisting with seating, taking up the collection, and beginning the communion procession. We hope to have ushers serve twice each month, depending on the number of people in this ministry.
