Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Executive Officer Mike Rzucidlo at 6:32 p.m.
Reflection: A reflection provided by Sharon Gidumal was read by Mike Rzucidlo in her absence.
Members Present: Mary Louise Chesley-Cora, Anita Delaney, John Falkowski, Father Bill Graney, JoAnn Hedrick, Dolores Lepori, Ruthann Maisonet, Rich Mayes, Al Mercatante, Mike Mitchell, Maritza Poza-Grise, Tina Prior, Joe Quinn, Mike Reis, Mike Rzucidlo, Jack Sanders, Dick Schwer, Kathy Swain.
Members Absent: Gerry Abrams, Sharon Gidumal.
Guests: Ruth Sanders.
Welcome, Introductions, Thanks: Mike Rzucidlo welcomed and introduced the newly elected and appointed members of the Council and thanked those members whose terms have ended.
Minutes Approved: The minutes were approved with changes suggested by Ruth Sanders and Al Mercatante.
Parish Buzz: Father Graney mentioned that, at 10:26 a.m. this morning, there was nobody in church for the 10:30 Mass. The attendance at Mass reflected the excessive heat and the fact that people go to the beach on summer weekends. He also mentioned that he recently celebrated Mass at Christiana Hospital. There were more people in attendance than there are at our 5:30 Saturday Mass. It is important, when admitted to the hospital, to let them know that you are a Resurrection parishioner as the hospital notifies parishes of the admission.
Committee Reports:
Liturgy Committee: Ruth Sanders provided a very comprehensive handout (a copy of which is attached) and made an extensive report on the activities of the liturgy committee and all of the responsibilities entrusted to that committee. The focus of the Liturgy Committee is threefold: liturgy preparation, formation, and inviting new liturgical ministers. She highlighted major accomplishments over the past year including the highly successful and well attended triduum liturgies. She noted the number of people actively involved in the various ministries and also announced a need for more sacristans, servers, greeters, and ushers.
Finance Committee: Mike Reis noted that the budget for next fiscal year had been approved at the May Council meeting. He stated that we are on target to reach the current year budget. Offertory contributions have risen this quarter when compared with a dismal first quarter of the year. Interviews are ongoing for the part-time bookkeeper position as is the search for volunteers to fulfill other duties currently performed by John Werner who is resigning effective at the end of June.
New Business:
Jack Sanders suggested that a software program is available that will synchronize all parish activities. Apparently something similar had been looked into in the past and it was determined that it’s too costly and won’t fill the needs of Resurrection.
Maritza suggested a 4 hour workshop presented by Matthew Kelly entitled “Find Your Greatness”. Mr. Kelly will come and present his workshop if we pick up his travel expenses. There was considerable interest and Maritza will explore the possibility of his coming to Resurrection, perhaps during Lent.
Jack Sanders mentioned that there is a need for home furnishings and small appliances for refugees coming to our area after fleeing their home country. There is currently a family from Pakistan he would like to assist. He will make a list of things that are needed and perhaps collecting donations can be a parish-wide project.
Dick Schwer reviewed the bylaws requirement that members provide the name and contact information of an alternate. Father Graney said that he will do an orientation with the new members to familiarize them with how the Council works and what is required of them.
Jack and Ruth Sanders volunteered to host our annual picnic next month.
Pastor’s Comments: Father Graney mentioned that he had attended the installation of the new pastor at the Presbyterian church. He found it interesting that they did not use the word “pastor”. He also mentioned that Skyline and Ebenezer Methodist Churches are not united in theology so it’s not possible for them to share a youth minister. He thanked all for being willing to participate in Pastoral Council as he is frequently concerned about tomorrow’s issues. It was decided that the commissioning Mass for Council will be June 25.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned and all present prayed the “Glory Be” together.
