Parish Council Meeting Minutes
April 12, 2015
Members Present: Mary Ann McLane, JoAnn Hedrick, Mike Rzucidlo for Donna Ramage, Mike Duffy, Joan Budd, Patty Zaza, Patricia Szwed, Dolores Lepori , Joe McClory, Fr. Bill Graney, Jim Nolan, Mike Reis, Deacon John Falkowski, James Davidson, Cory Zolandz, Tom Leitch, Rich Mayes
Members Absent: Selvam Mascarenhas, Bob Straub
Opening Prayer: Jim Nolan, read several passages on giving from the Bible. Jim discussed the term tithe which originally included gifts from the land for an agrarian society.
Parish Buzz:
Joan Budd talked with other parishioners about Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia in September.There is growing excitement about the trip in the parish.Question was raised if Parish could arrange for a bus to attend the Papal Mass.
Paper copies of ministry signups and electronic version of signups do not match up.Response is that office is trying to get the two in sync.Currently using Sign up Genie for electronic signups.
Photos of new faces at Good Friday Service were taken and uploaded to Parish Facebook site.
Cory announced that the Parish Cookout is scheduled for Sunday May 17th from 12 to 2PM.Looking for volunteers to help out.
New Business: Election Committee Report: Dick Schwer led discussion and reported that the first Sunday of candidate signups got off to a good start and that we currently have six nominations. Keep asking next Sunday at the nomination table next Sunday too. Mary Ann will prepare board with candidate photos and bios for the elections which will be held in May on 1
st and 3
rd Sundays.
Finance Committee Update: Jim Nolan led the discussion of the annual report of the Finance Committee to the Parish Council. A one page summary was presented which showed a deficit of $23,000 for the 2016 budget if expenses and offertory collections remain the same as current year. Currently an appeal is planned for October to ask parishioners for additional support to help offset deficit.
A motion to approve budget line items for standing committees at levels listed in Finance Committee Update was unanimously approved.
Building and Grounds: Rich Mayes provided update on the Kitchen Improvement Project. Rich has agreed to serve as the General Contractor which will save approximately 30% of the project cost. Currently looking for volunteer to serve as project manager for the improvement project, several names are under consideration for project manager. Discussions with Staff and Committees Members frequent users of kitchen who can offer good suggestions: Suzie Oliver- Lazarus Committee, Cory and Kat- Religious Education, Doug Kielman- doughnuts.
Pastor’s Comments: Fr Bill reported that he received input and Mass for the Assumption of Mary will be scheduled at 9AM Saturday August 15
th.
Change is constant, during St Augustine’s time, 400 AD, North Africa was primarily Christian. By 600 AD North Africa had undergone conversion primarily to Moslem Faith. Priest Shortage is coming, in next 5years. Preparing for Lay Ministry can help Resurrection survive as parishes will have to be consolidated.
